New Categories, Big Opportunities with the Revamped Canadian Grand Prix New Products Awards

Retail Council of Canada (RCC) is excited to unveil the 32nd edition of the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards, now reimagined to spotlight the most innovative products in today’s market. Often referred to as the “Oscars” of new products in Canada, the awards program has introduced new categories that mirror today’s consumer trends, particularly in sustainability, health, and convenience.

New Categories Reflect Retail’s Next Big Trends

The awards this year are expanding to recognize both food and non-food sectors that are redefining retail. Among the changes, participants now can be recognized for plant-based and alternative products, reflecting the growing shift towards healthier, sustainable eating. In the non-food space, new categories highlight innovations like Health and Beauty products and a notable trend in sustainable disposables made from wood and bamboo, catering to consumer demand for eco-friendly alternatives. These updates foster greater competition and celebrate brands that are setting new standards in their industries.

Additional categories have been added to capture this broader range of innovations and provide a fresh platform for brands pushing the boundaries of their categories:

  • Coffee & Tea
  • Frozen Entrees & Sides
  • Fresh & Refrigerated Prepared Foods
  • Child Care Products
  • Health and Beauty
  • Paper, Plastic, Foil, & Wood Disposables

These new categories not only reflect the evolving retail landscape but also respond to the increasing demand for products that prioritize sustainability, health, and ethical choices

Streamlined Submission Process to Highlight Innovation

To provide a clearer view of each product’s story, RCC has also revamped the submission process with new, detailed questions that allow participants to showcase their unique innovations. This approach aims to give judges a deeper understanding of each product’s development, impact, and standout qualities, whether they involve novel ingredients, category extensions, or sustainable designs.

Expanded Consumer Engagement and Visibility

This year’s awards come with enhanced opportunities for visibility. A new social media campaign will spotlight finalists and winners, highlighting what the Grand Prix seal represents and directing consumers to where they can find these products. This effort, along with continued exposure on Flipp and Reebee apps, is designed to connect award-winning products with a broader audience of Canadian shoppers.

Encouraging Participation from Start-Ups and New Brands

The revamped awards program also includes a focus on making participation more accessible, particularly for start-ups and emerging brands. Special registration rates aim to lower the barriers for newer players eager to showcase their products on a national stage.

  • Registration Rates:
    • RCC and FHCP members: $2,750
    • Non-members: $3,025
    • Start-ups: $2,000
