WINNIPEG — Farmers, agri-tourism operators, food producers, retailers and farmers markets in Saskatchewan have until the end of May to sign up for Open Farm Days in the province.
The second annual event is scheduled for Aug. 9-10, when the public is welcome to visit farms and food sector businesses across the province.
“This annual event shares Saskatchewan agriculture stories with (the public) by bringing people together through educational and experiential agricultural-based initiatives, to learn about where your food comes from,” says the Saskatchewan Open Farm Days website.
Irish farm safety advocate urges a few simple concepts to keep Canadian kids safer on farms.
The event is organized by Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan, which is a coalition of farm groups, ag industry reps and provincial officials that are trying to build consumer trust and confidence in food production.
“Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan believes that getting to know farmers and ranchers is getting to know food,” says its website.
Last year, about 40 farms, agri-food businesses and vendors participated in the two day event.
The Open Farm Days website shows that approximately 25 farms, orchards, retailers and markets have signed on for 2025.
Anyone interested in becoming a host farm can register until May 31.
The Saskatchewan Open Farm Days website has a webinar explaining the details of how to participate.
Organizers have developed a list of incentives and training opportunities, which make it easier to participate:
