Outcast Foods, a Canadian food technology company that rescues cast off produce and upcycles it into supplements and other ingredients, has hired Miriam Zitner as vice-president, business development.
She will help lead the company’s North American expansion and help Outcast scale its unique plant-based technology, integral to the emerging and quickly expanding new category of upcycled consumer products.
“With approximately one-third of the world’s annual food production wasted or lost, resulting in 3.3 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, Outcast is on a mission to create a healthier planet with zero food waste,” says Darren Burke, CEO. “Miriam will play a key role as Outcast continues to refine its processes and expand its reach with a team of passionate and engaged employees excited about building a global company with significant social, environmental and economic impact.”
Zitner comments, “I’ve admired the ingenuity of Outcast since first learning about the company. This is an industry growing in significance daily, as the consumer continues to make lifestyle shifts, both from a diet and a values-based perspective. I am looking forward to working with the Outcast team to find innovative and strategic opportunities to drive growth for the company.”
