Parmigiano Reggiano saw record sales in 2024

Italian cheese Parmigiano Reggiano’s turnover at consumption in 2024 reached 3.2 billion Euros, an increase of 4.9 per cent YoY despite a challenging geopolitical environment, uncertainty in international markets, and concerns over increasing trade restrictions, the Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium reported during an annual press conference earlier this year.

Total sales volumes grew by 9.2 per cent, bolstered by strong performance in the domestic market (+5.2 per cent) and a surge in exports (+13.7 per cent). Canadian imports grew by 24.5 per cent. In the first quarter of 2025, Canadian imports increased by 64 per cent compared to the same period in 2024. The consortium attributes this growth to targeted marketing and trade initiatives in collaboration with Canadian retailers and importers.

“Canada’s exceptional 24.5 per cent growth is a testament to the country’s evolving culinary culture and its appreciation for authentic, PDO [protected designation of origin]-certified products like Parmigiano Reggiano,” said Nicola Bertinelli, president of the Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium. “Canadians are discerning consumers who value transparency and tradition—and we are proud to see our cheese becoming such a beloved part of their lives.”
