(September 5, 2025 – Vancouver, B.C.) The Pattison Food Group has signed the Canada Grocery Code, reinforcing the company’s 110-year legacy of fair and supportive supplier relationships, commitment to ethical business practices, and dedicated service to communities across Western Canada.
“Fundamentally, this code aligns with what we’ve always done and how we conduct business with our supplier community,” said Jamie Nelson, president of the Pattison Food Group. “Integrity is one of our core values and this code provides a framework for fairness, transparency, and collaboration that benefits everyone—from suppliers to shoppers. We’ve operated with that mindset for all 110 years we’ve been in business.”
The Canada Grocery Code is a voluntary framework designed to promote fair and transparent relationships between grocers and suppliers. It includes clear guidelines around the use of penalties and fees, and aims to enhance consistency, predictability, and trust across the industry.
“We’re pleased to welcome Pattison Food Group as a registered member of the Office of the Grocery Sector Code of Conduct,” said Karen Proud, president and adjudicator of the Office of the Grocery Sector Code of Conduct. “Their early commitment to the Code shows a shared dedication to fair and transparent practices across Canada’s grocery supply chain.”
Signing the code is especially significant for the Pattison Food Group’s wholesale operations, Associated Grocers, which supports independent grocers throughout Western Canada — many of whom operate in smaller or remote communities where food insecurity and supply challenges are more pronounced.
“Our wholesale arm plays a critical role in supporting independent grocers,” added Nelson. “This code is more than a compliance measure. It is a statement of values and will help ensure we get our fair share of product, so those smaller communities get the essential products they need.”
The code will become fully operational on January 1, 2026, when the Office of the Grocery Sector Code of Conduct will begin formal operations, including enforcement, education, and dispute resolution.
