PCC Community Markets hires former Whole Foods exec David Spear

PCC Community Markets, a retail food co-op operating 15 neighborhood grocery stores in the Puget Sound area of Washington state, has appointed former Whole Foods Market executive David Spear as vice president of merchandising, promotions, and sourcing.

Spear now leads the merchandising team and will also hold a crucial role in shaping PCC’s promotional go-to-market strategy, store experience, and the co-op’s private label and pricing strategy, the retail co-op said in a statement.

Spear has worked in food retail for more than 20 years, in a range of roles that span merchandising, procurement, and operations. He comes to PCC following nearly 16 years at Whole Foods, most recently as the executive leader of operations. Prior to Whole Foods, Spear spent five years at the now defunct Chicago-based gourmet grocer, Fox & Obel Market.

Founded in Seattle in 1953, PCC Community Markets is a certified organic retailer. PCC operates 15 stores in the Puget Sound area, including the cities of Bellevue, Bothell, Burien, Edmonds, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond and Seattle. Seattle stores are in the neighborhoods of Ballard, Central District, Columbia City, Fremont, Green Lake, View Ridge and West Seattle.
