“Every year the event gets dozens and dozens of reports of missing kids, and even more missing grandparents,” said Houghton. “In some blocks you’ve got 10 to 20,000 people, music, booths, food, floats. It’s really easy to be distracted. You turn around and your child is lost. Same with the elderly, they see an old friend and they’re gone.”
