Regina — Protein Industries Canada receives $15 million in new funding from the Government of Canada, focused on two key areas: Genomics and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The funding aims to support the development of technologies that enhance plant breeding, agricultural productivity, and supply chain efficiency within Canada’s agriculture and food sectors.
The funding is divided into two streams:
“This new investment will deliver value across the entire supply chain, starting with enhanced genetics that improve crop functionality and provide farmers with more resilient, high-performing options,” said Robert Hunter, CEO of Protein Industries Canada. “Our investment into artificial intelligence will support the development of tools that boost on-farm productivity and sustainability.”
Minister Mélanie Joly, responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, said, “Investing in genomics and artificial intelligence is investing in our future, helping build a more prosperous and competitive Canada.”
Both the Genomics and AI funding streams are open for applications on a rolling basis. Companies interested in applying must first meet with Protein Industries Canada’s project team before submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI).
