In the latest instalment of Recall Roundup (24-30 January 2025), New Food highlights recent food and beverage recalls in the UK and US.
In the UK this week, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners is recalling a small number of soft drinks due to elevated levels of chlorate. While the risk is low when consumed occasionally, individuals sensitive to chlorate and those with mild to moderate iodine deficiency may be more affected.
Only production codes from 328 GE to 338 GE are included in the recall.
Recalled Products:
Consumers sensitive to chlorate, particularly young children and those with thyroid deficiency, blood conditions (such as anaemia), or kidney disease, may be at higher risk. Long-term exposure to chlorate can inhibit iodine uptake, potentially leading to adverse effects such as goitre. In severe cases, acute exposure may affect oxygen absorption and lead to kidney failure.
If you have purchased any of the affected products, do not consume them. Instead, contact Coca-Cola’s customer service team on 0800 227711 for assistance.
