Schnuck Markets opens new Schnucks Express format

Schnuck Markets has launched Schnucks Express, a convenience-focused outlet  connected to its EatWell natural food store format in Columbia, Mo.

Located at 111 South Providence Rd., Schnucks Express has its own entrance and is stocked to bring shoppers “a complete grocery experience” by offering staple products and customer favorites from traditional Schnucks supermarkets across the Midwest, St. Louis-based Schnucks said yesterday.

Schnucks Express occupies about 11,000 square feet of the 42,000-square-foot building and has interior entrance to EatWell. Updates to the store are slated to be completed later this fall. Hours of operation for both locations are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

“After listening to our customers’ feedback, we’ve learned that they enjoy the natural and organic offerings available at EatWell but also are seeking the convenience of conventional grocery items,” David Isinghood, senior director of EatWell and health and wellness at Schnuck Markets, said in a statement.

“EatWell, a Natural Food Store, by Schnucks” opened in June 2020 in a space formerly occupied by a Lucky’s Market supermarket. EatWell targets customers prioritizing health and wellness, natural and organic foods, and “the occasional splurge,” serving up a mix of better-for-you and locally sourced products plus an array of prepared foods and beverages that customers can take home or enjoy on-site as they shop, according to Schnucks.

Departments and services in EatWell include bakery, bulk foods, a cheese shop, dairy, deli, floral, frozen foods, grocery, liquor, meat and seafood, natural living and fresh produce. Though EatWell focuses on natural and organic products, Schnuck said at the time of its opening that the store also carries a selection of traditional groceries to help provide a more convenient shopping experience. That function is now served by Schnucks Express.

“We invite our customers to stop in and see both the expanded selection of traditional customer favorites as well as the enhanced shopping experience of the natural and good-for-you items at EatWell/Schnucks Express,” Isinghood added.

Schnucks noted that it has served Columbia-area residents since 1970 and currently operates three stores in the city and another mid-Missouri store in Jefferson City. Overall, the chain has 112 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
