Within the framework of the 2021 export campaign, the National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (Senasa), certified a total of 11,000 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables, including citrus (lemons, mandarins, oranges), apples, pears, and sweet potatoes exported through the Buenos Aires port of Campana to the Russian Federation and the European Union.
The shipment, exported in two vessels -the second and third of the season-, consists of a total of 9,809 pallets, 4,917 pallets of which correspond to lemons, 3,855 to mandarins, 109 to oranges, 272 to apples, 512 to pears, and 144 pallets of sweet potatoes.
Guillermo Ruffo, the coordinator of Plant Protection of the Buenos Aires North Regional Center, highlighted the importance of the export of citrus fruit to Europe, noting: “These phytosanitary inspection and certification activities clearly show how the joint work between the public and private sectors is decisive for the country. The fact that we are certifying fresh citrus fruits to the European Union is the result of all the actions and negotiations that the national state -with support from the citrus sector- carried out in recent months.”
“As a regional center, we carry out the port inspection, which is an activity that is part of the last stage of the fresh citrus export program to different parts of the world, an essential requirement prior to the issuance of the certificate. Carrying out this inspection activity is possible, thanks to the reliable fulfillment of all the previous stages of the program, verified by our agents, from production in the field to packaging, each backed by the Citrus Traceability System,” Ruffo stated.
