SN Top 10: Kroger, Albertsons, Loblaw top the week’s headlines

In this week’s recap of the Top 10 most popular Supermarket News articles, the top story was Kroger, Albertsons make deal with C&S Wholesale Grocers — officially selling off 413 stores. In a deal which could end up being the foundation for their $24.6 billion merger deal, Kroger and Albertsons Cos. have sold 413 stores to C&S Wholesale Grocers. The sale also includes eight distribution centers and five private label brands.

In other news, Wegmans, the 107-year-old grocery chain based in Rochester, N.Y., has topped Fortune’s Best Companies list every year since the list was launched in 1998, and  this year it has managed a repeat performance. Fortune reports that Wegmans has been recognized for so long because, for starters, it has over 53,000 workers and maintains a $15 minimum wage, nearly double the national average.
