SN Top 10: Walgreens, Save A Lot, Target top the week’s headlines

In this week’s recap of the Top 10 most popular Supermarket News articles, the top story was Walgreens will lay off more workers. Walgreens Boots Alliance is laying off another round of workers, marking the fourth time the struggling retailer has had to do corporate personnel cuts within a year. Company spokeswoman Megan Boyd said in a statement to Supermarket News that the majority of impacted roles are based in the retailer’s Chicago offices. Boyd would not confirm how many workers would be impacted by the layoffs.

In other news, The Wall Street Journal published a bombshell report on Amazon on Saturday, alleging that the online retail giant worked to steal trade secrets from the grocery chain Trader Joe’s. The story investigates Amazon’s efforts to develop a private-label food brand, known as Wickedly Prime, which aimed to replicate Trader Joe’s top 200 products.
