Demeter agriculture, controlled biodynamic agriculture, is a particularly sustainable and mindful form of agriculture. SPAR is now putting this unique, sustainable and mindful agriculture in the spotlight, entering into a ground-breaking partnership with the Demeter Association. This means customers can buy products from Demeter agriculture at SPAR throughout Austria. Up to 200 Demeter products are already available at SPAR, EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR.

Farm management in the sense of a circular economy is the central theme of biodynamic agriculture. In addition to a diverse crop rotation and targeted site-specific cultivation, ruminants in particular are essential for this closed cycle: combined with plants and minerals, they provide valuable organic fertilizer for fertile soil. Biodynamic agriculture thus cultivates a mindful and respectful approach to our environment and is an important partner in preserving diversity.
“The partnership with Demeter is of great concern to us because we both pursue a common goal: the preservation of diversity. Demeter embodies biodiversity and, by focusing on the development of plants, animals and people, also ensures the colorful diversity of our food,” says SPAR CEO Mag. Markus Kaser, explaining the motives for the cooperation and thus emphasizing the importance of the initiative “Saving Diversity Together”.
Around 200 products from biodynamic agriculture at SPAR
Pinot gris, pomegranate juice, flour, oatmeal, porridge or even the new SPAR Natur*pur organic baby semolina porridge: around 200 products from biodynamic agriculture are already available on the shelves of SPAR, EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR. “As sellers of these Demeter products, we also see ourselves as part of this Demeter family and live the Demeter idea with our employees in all our stores at SPAR in Austria,” says Mag. Kaser.
Biodynamic agriculture on the advance
Founded in 1924, Demeter is one of the oldest organizations for organic agriculture. With the same standards worldwide and particularly strict guidelines, Demeter stands for the highest quality in farming and processing. The basic philosophy is to promote the development of the soil, plants, animals and people and to intervene as little as possible in the course of nature. Thanks to site-specific cultivation depending on the soil conditions, gentle harvesting, the best storage and the most careful processing, the products are also of the highest quality. In the meantime, 270 farms in Austria work according to Demeter guidelines.
The cooperation with SPAR is a new, forward-looking step by the association: “I find it exciting that SPAR is also getting involved and has agreed to help advance associative management.
