Businesses in the food and drink sector are replacing traditional printed and painted signage with innovative projected alternatives which improve food hygiene and safety.
That’s according to Projected Image, Newcastle-based projected signage experts who have worked with major companies including Coca-Cola, Dunbia and MOWI Scotland.
Projected Image supplies LED gobo projectors that shine bright health and safety signs onto surfaces, including floors, walls and doors. The image is provided by a glass ‘gobo’ which can be customised for specific health and safety signage needs.
“Projected signage tackles many challenges faced by the food and drink industry. Unlike painted signage and safety markings, projected signs don’t risk producing contaminants, such as paint chips, when cleaned regularly or subjected to heavy footfall and forklift traffic. They don’t fade or harbour bacteria either,” says Ian Spoors, MD of Projected Image.
On top of enhancing safety, the experts say LED projected signs are the ideal solution for food and drink facilities as they are highly adaptable. Projected signs can be easily updated to reflect new guidelines or food safety protocols – while also being suitable for a range of conditions, including chilled storage areas.
Projected signs are also proving to be clearer, brighter and more consistent than traditional signage, helping businesses reduce ‘sign blindness’ – people involuntarily ignoring important safety signs due to familiarity – for a safer, more hygienic workplace.
“For Dunbia, we produced projected signage for their handwashing stations and they’ve since reported an increase in sign visibility throughout their factory premises. Employees are more aware of the bright, harder-to-ignore projected signs, ensuring they follow the health and safety protocols that are so crucial in food and drink environments,” says Spoors.
Projected Image says it is the UK’s only dedicated provider of LED projectors and custom-made gobos. The low-energy projectors can be installed by qualified electricians in any commercial or industrial environment.
“In addition to the health and safety benefits, there are also cost benefits too, as projected signs provide low maintenance use for up to 50,000 hours. Many companies are finding that projected safety signs are the long-term, low-maintenance solution for safer, cleaner workspaces,” concludes Spoors.
