More Canadians are looking to travel within the country this summer, with many of them interested in visiting a particular hotspot on Vancouver Island.

The finding was part of the Summer Travel Outlook released today by the travel booking platform

Expedia

. The decision to stick close to home likely comes as no surprise to travellers as ongoing trade tensions with the U.S.,

coupled with travel advisories from the government

, has prompted many Canadians to consider where they’re jetting off to this year.

“While we’ve been seeing recent fluctuations in U.S. search activities, Canadians are still eager to travel and have been rediscovering all the beauty Canada has to offer,” Melanie Fish, head of Expedia Group brands public relations, said in a news release. “Not only are domestic travel searches increasing, but travellers are also eager to visit European favourites such as Paris and London, or enjoy a beach getaway in Cancun or explore the hidden gems across Asia.”

British Columbians (and anyone who has visited this destination, really) will likely nod their heads in agreement when they learn which Vancouver Island travel destination has been named the top trending domestic travel hotspot for Canada.

Tofino has been named the top trending travel destination in Canada by Expedia.

Tofino has long been a favourite for locals and international tourists alike who are drawn to the district for its

spectacular food,

storm watching

and surfing.

Vancouver Island is home to a variety of destinations such as Comox

and

Victoria

that are also worthy of a weekend (or week!) getaway.

According to

Expedia

, searches for Tofino have increased 35 per cent in recent months. Other trending travel destinations within Canada include:

• St. John’s

• Nanaimo

• Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine

• Halifax

• Okanagan-Similkameen

• Whistler

• East Kootenay

• Winnipeg

• Québec City (+15 per cent)

Whistler is a no-brainer for winter escapes —

it’s also home to Canada’s Best Resort of 2025

— but it’s great to see it trending for the summer season, too.

These destinations boast increasing search interest on the travel platform, joining consistently trending search destinations in Canada such as Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary.

Interestingly, three additional destinations in B.C. were listed on the site’s Popular Destinations list: the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, Kelowna and Victoria. If the numbers are correct, it could be a big year

for travel to B.C.’s wine country.

For travellers looking to go beyond Canada’s borders, the list of popular travel destinations includes: Paris, Tokyo, London, Rome, Barcelona, Cancun, Athens, Lisbon, Punta Cana, and Osaka, Japan.
