There’s a new twist to this year’s Vancouver’s 20 Best award results from the Chinese Restaurant Awards.

Announced on Wednesday, the list includes 17 winning restaurants chosen by an “expanded and diverse” group of judges, along with a selection of “worth to explore” eateries and must-try eats to round out the best-of list. Reflecting the “diversity of Chinese regional and Taiwanese cuisines in Metro Vancouver,” the list of top restaurants and recommended dishes aims to represent “a gourmet roadmap for locals and visitors,” according to a news release..

“Since its inception, Chinese Restaurant Awards’ signature dish concept has helped diners discover the best dishes,” Lee Man, the judging chair of the awards, said in the release. “With Vancouver’s 20 Best new award format, we have invited a diverse group of judges to vote for their favourite establishments in the given categories and recommend Signature Dishes from there.

“This list of recommended dishes will provide diners with an easy-to-follow guide to explore the best from each winning restaurant.”

Man was joined on the awards judging panel by local food critics Brendon Mathews and Alexandra Gill, along with “frequent diners” from a variety of different industries, totalling 21 new judges, to share their top picks and perspectives on Vancouver Chinese and Taiwanese eateries.

In lieu of an awards ceremony, organizers will award plaques individually to category winners, according to the release. Check out the full list of winners below.
