Walmart Canada looking to hire 12,000 permanent workers

In what it calls a “major hiring push” for the holiday season, Walmart Canada will be hiring 12,000 new and permanent associates in its stores across Canada.

To kick-start this effort, the retailer is hosting a special national hiring event Oct. 14 and Oct. 15 from 1pm to 8pm local time in stores and distribution/fleet centres across the country. “Interested applicants can simply walk into their local store, apply and be interviewed on the spot,” company officials said in an Oct. 7 news release.

The new associates are needed primarily as omnichannel customer experience salesfloor store associates, fresh food store associates, merchandising store associates, warehouse associates, and drivers.

“At Walmart, our people want and do make a difference for millions of Canadians every day,” said Walmart Canada president and CEO Horacio Barbeito. “As a 27-year Walmart veteran, I know firsthand about our commitment to offering good jobs and opportunities. I look forward to welcoming thousands more associates to the Walmart family.”

Walmart Canada is one of Canada’s largest employers, with more than 100,000 associates working in a chain of more than 400 stores nationwide.
