Walmart+ Expands Garage Delivery Service With Smart Tech Partnership

Through a partnership with myQ, Walmart is enhancing its Walmart+ InHome offering to bring a secure grocery and household products delivery service to more members’ garages. Walmart+ InHome members and myQ app subscribers will be able to schedule deliveries and returns that will be fulfilled by full-time tenured Walmart associates.

These Walmart employees will gain access to a member’s garage via a one-time use code provided by a myQ connected device. The associate will unpack the products in the garage — including storing items in a refrigerator if available, sanitizing surfaces that are touched and, if necessary, picking up returns. Upon completion of the delivery, the associate will secure the garage door before leaving.

“The goal of Walmart+ InHome is to give our members convenience and choice and, over the last few years, we’ve discovered our in-garage delivery option is a popular choice among members,” said Whitney Pegden, VP and GM at InHome in a statement. “We’re really excited for myQ smart garage technology to help us reach more customers with a more seamless in-garage experience.”

The security of home delivery service fulfillment has been an important issue among consumers who enjoy the convenience of shopping from anywhere but are wary of the risks of having items stolen from their doorsteps.

“With over 210 million packages having vanished from porches across the U.S. last year, many consumers feel the need to schedule their day around deliveries to ensure they get their packages and groceries,” said Kiel Fitzgerald, Senior Director of Delivery Services for myQ parent company Chamberlain Group in a statement. “In-Garage Delivery puts the customer in control with no need to schedule the day around deliveries — rain or shine, packages and groceries will stay safe inside the garage until someone is free to get them.”
