Organic farming in general, and in the Valencian Community in particular, has been growing steadily for years. Aware of this growth, the members of the plenary session of the management body of the Valencian Community’s Organic Agriculture Committee (CAECV) -the entity in charge of controlling, certifying, representing, defending, investigating, and promoting organic products- promoted the creation of a body that represents organic farming as an economic sector.
This gave birth to the first Valencian ecological lobby, the Association for the defense, promotion, and dissemination of the Valencian Community’s Ecological Agriculture (ASECOCV), which aims at representing, structuring, organizing, and positioning the sector for the future in face of the EU’s organic farming action plan’s strategies.
“The association wants to be the sector’s professional meeting point to give voice to its associates’ common interests, vindicate the organic food model, generate greater social awareness, and contribute to the growth of organic consumption,” stated the president of the entity, Vicente Sanz. To do this, it will take into account the opinion of operators, universities, the scientific community, associations, and consumer groups.
Its objectives are focused on teaching, training, researching, promoting, disseminating the knowledge and application of organic production systems, as well as their products. It will also advise operators on the implementation of organic production systems.
Leaders
The ecological lobby will be made up of individuals and legal entities that will have the capacity to push back in a serious and responsible manner against the decisions made by local, regional, national, and international institutions that may affect the future of the Valencian ecological sector.
The board of directors is made up of Vicente Sanz, who will act as president, Regina Monsalve, secretary, Jose Antonio Rico, treasurer, and members Alfons Dominguez and Federico Samper.
