Big food hall opens in Melbourne’s south east

The first stage of The Glen’s $460 million redevelopment in Melbourne’s south east has opened, incorporating a fresh food market hall.

A new Aldi, Woolworths and Coles supermarkets join 60 boutique food retailers and specialty stores in a revamp of the shopping centre’s food offering.

The redevelopment has been under construction since March 2017.

Stage two of redevelopment coming soon

The second stage of The Glen’s redevelopment will include a contemporary food gallery in early 2018.

The food gallery will be filled with restaurants and cafes across two levels.

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Vicinity Centres which operates The Glen, Angus McNaughton said, “Combining fresh food retailers, cafes and supermarkets on one convenient level gives customers a true one-stop destination.”

New jobs created in retail and hospitality industry

The redevelopment has created 1,200 ongoing retail, hospitality and service jobs at the completed centre.

Centre manager Richard Devlin said the centre was excited to introduce new and loyal customers to its fresh food market hall.

“With produce, cheese, deli, wine and liquor traders on hand seven days a week, The Glen’s fresh food market hall will offer local customers quality food experiences on one convenient level,” he said.
