Catalonia will produce 11% fewer peaches and nectarines than last year

According to the stone fruit harvest forecast for Catalonia that was prepared by Afrucat on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Catalonia will produce 306,610 tons of stone fruits in the 2021 campaign, i.e. 11% less than in 2020. One must be taken into account, however, that 2020 was a year of low production and that it was 33% lower than in 2019.

By groups, and compared to 2020, round peaches will decrease by 5% (76,320 tons), flat peaches will decrease by 14% (86,660 tons), nectarines will decrease by 13% (121,390 tons), and peaches will increase by 4% (22,430 tons).

Forecast of the 2021 peach and nectarine harvest in Catalonia and production in the 2018-2020 period.

There will be a strong decline in production in Lleida and Tarragona due to the weather, frost, and uprooting. The harvest will be delayed by 4 to 7 days.

The productive area has decreased because the rate of planting has drastically slowed down and because of the uprooting of crops.
