“Heritage has a fantastic relationship with local growers, farmers, artisans and suppliers”

With over 40 years in the industry, The Heritage Fine Food Company is a BRC certified fruit and vegetable wholesaler based in Wiltshire supplying to restaurants, cafes, and schools throughout the South-West.

Along with being a fruit and vegetable wholesaler, Heritage Fine Foods also have a home delivery service, Heritage at Home and a fruit and veg box subscriptions service, 5ADAY Box.

Ken and Kay Mortimer

Ken Mortimer, Director, started as a grower in Bromham when he was 20 years old, eventually opening 37 greengrocery shops with his brother Neil. The shops all closed in the 1990s as food shopping moved to out-of-town supermarkets.  At this point Ken moved into wholesale supplying restaurants, cafes, care homes and schools. In 2005 the 5adaybox home veg box delivery service was born. The company currently supplies parts of the South West region.

“The majority of our business is supplying to the catering trade with a range of accounts including high end accounts such as Marco Pierre White and Dyson,” said Ken Mortimer.

“Heritage has a fantastic relationship with local growers, farmers, artisans and suppliers, sourcing a varied supply of seasonal and fresh produce throughout the year. Wherever possible Heritage will source produce from the South West or the UK, supporting local producers is extremely important and during the pandemic we were able to increase orders for retail boxes and stop some suppliers going out of business whose sole customers were restaurants who were not open. This helped to build more resilient communities, whilst supporting local food artisans and farmers alike.”

Heritage has developed a collaborative approach to working with suppliers and investing in the local supply chain and can share forecast data for specific food items to help with their production plans. This collaborative approach in working with suppliers means treating farmers as partners rather than contractors and investing in the long-term sustainability of the supply chain.

“The most popular seasonal produce we are currently selling are potatoes, squash, heritage carrots, kale, cavalo nero and the last of the English corn. We import seasonal produce which does not grow in the UK and at the moment imported citrus fruits are also selling well.”
