Working with No Kid Hungry, a charity based in the US that supports children facing food insecurity, Kellanova and Shaw’s Supermarkets have provided a $50,000 joint donation that will be put towards proving meals over the summer to children in Maine.

Feeding America has shared that currently in the US a total of 13 percent children are food insecure. While there are numerous charities working to support families facing food insecurity, 29 million people in the US alone turned to food programmes in 2022.

Although many children are able to access school meals during term time, as the summer holidays approach “millions of children are cut off from the healthy meals they get each day at school”.

Kellanova explains that “the need is especially acute in rural communities, where children may be far away from free summer meals served at schools, libraries and community centres”.

“With 34 million people in America not knowing where their next meal will come from, the need to help feed and fulfill continues,” said Meigan Goodwin, Customer Team Lead, Albertsons, at Kellanova.

“Through our Kellanova Better Days Promise, we’re committed to feeding people in need, and we’re proud to partner with Shaw’s to support those facing hunger in communities around Maine.”

The No Kid Hungry campaign is focused on providing school breakfast and summer meals. Since 2022, it has invested $128,000 grant funds to school districts and community groups across Maine to support a wide variety of projects that are driven and implemented by trusted local leaders and tailored to each community’s needs.

“Shaw’s is proud to give back to the communities we serve in Maine. We are dedicated to supporting programmes aimed at hunger relief, enabling the children in our communities to live enriched and complete lives, made possible through the kind support of partners such as Kellanova,” shared Teresa Edington, a Shaw’s Spokesperson.
