Meatless Farm partners with Equinom

Meatless Farm and its ingredients subsidiary, Lovingly Made Ingredients, has announced a partnership with Equinom, a biotechnology company that develops non-GMO seeds. The partnership, which will include Equinom’s new pea protein in a variety of Meatless Farm products, will work toward creating one of the most sustainable and better-for-you meatless products on the market, while increasing protein by 15 per cent.

This partnership positions Meatless Farm and Lovingly Made Ingredients at the forefront of plant-based innovation, leveraging Equinom’s pioneering AI technology to speed up the natural seed breeding process without gene editing or manipulation. This new partnership is also expected to have far reaching supply chain implications by reducing Lovingly Made Ingredients’ carbon footprint through reductions in both energy and water production and bringing the company one step closer to accomplishing its mission of being net zero on carbon emissions.

Morten Toft Bech, founder of Meatless Farm says, “We are impressed by the level of research Equinom has done to bring the most nutritious and sustainable plant-based ingredients to market and their ability to naturally breed seeds efficiently. We are committed to creating a more sustainable global food system from field to fork and partnering with Equinom takes us a step closer to reaching a net zero supply chain. The higher protein content of our products will also help achieve our mission to help people reduce their meat consumption by providing credible plant-based swaps for meat that are accessible and still taste great. Ultimately, a better seed makes better peas for us to create more nutritious and delicious plant-based food that are kinder to our planet.”

Gil Shalev, PhD, founder and CEO of Equinom says, “Partnering with Meatless Farm will help expand our reach to over 13 different countries around the world and help meet the growing demand for plant-based foods with high nutrition and environmental sustainability. We are proud to collaborate with a company with the same vision ⎯⎯ that the world’s source of protein must come from a clean, sustainable and accessible ingredient made only by nature and with little human involvement.”
