The popular Vancouver vegan restaurant MeeT is set to close another location.
In a post to Instagram, MeeT made the announcement that its eatery at 165 Mainland St. in Yaletown will close after eight years.
“It’s been an honour to serve you all. We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years with your first date nights, celebrations with friends, and late-night snacks,” the team said in the post.
The post detailed the turmoil facing the local restaurant industry right now.
“The restaurant industry hasn’t been the same since COVID. While we’ve remained busy, the cost structure of the industry has changed dramatically,” they shared. “Food and labour costs continue to rise, while many people are dining out less often.”
The final day of service at the Yaletown location will be this Saturday, March 28.
Amid the challenging economy, they note, it’s no longer viable to have several locations in such proximity.
“These changes mean it’s time to focus on our original location, MeeT on Main,” they shared.
Founded in 2014 with an outpost at 4288 Main St., the eatery offered a meat-free take on comfort food. The approach caught on with diners, prompting the one restaurant to become three, with outposts in Gastown and Yaletown.
The bustling Gastown location on Water Street shuttered in 2025, after 10 years of serving dishes including its popular Mac N’ Cheez Bowl.
With the downsizing, the restaurant team said the original location on Main Street will remain open.
“Looking ahead at MoM, we’re planning expanded hours, refreshed menus, new feature programs, a brand new patio, and the potential addition of brunch,” they wrote.
The news sees MeeT join several other Vancouver restaurants that have closed.
The popular Vancouver taco chain, Gringo, also recently pulled the plug. In a post to Instagram, the team noted that “due to ongoing challenges,” the eatery was forced to “dramatically downsize and decrease its operations.”
The Mexican eatery’s locations at Davie Street and Lonsdale both permanently closed on March 7. The Gastown location at 27 Blood Alley Square is listed as temporarily closed on Google. The restaurant team noted March 14 would be its last service at that location “until further notice.”
