The top 10 tomato exporting countries in the world in 2020

Mexico, the Netherlands, and Spain were the leading exporters of tomatoes in 2020. Mexico’s tomato exports amounted to 2.61 billion. It was followed by the Netherlands, with 1.915 billion, and Spain with 1.070 billion.

Mexico concentrates practically all of its shipments to the United States.

The Netherlands mainly exports its tomato to Germany and the United Kingdom, while Spain mainly sends its tomato to Germany, the United Kingdom, and France.

The top 10 tomato exporting countries in 2020 is completed by Morocco (770 million), Canada (460 million), France (440 million), Belgium (330 million), the United States (310 million), Turkey (310 million), and China (270 million).

From a broader perspective, the monetary value of world food exports increased 3.6-fold in nominal terms between 2000 and 2018, from about $380 billion in 2000 to just under $1.4 trillion in 2018, with strong increases in all food product groups, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Fruits and vegetables accounted for 23% of the total value of food exports in 2018.
