Mixed news in U.S. and Canadian tractor sales compared to 2025

Canadian and U.S. equipment buyers had combines on their minds in April, says the latest data from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

Canadian combine sales in April 2026 were up 42.7 per cent compared to sales in April 2025.

In the United States, April combine sales climbed a more modest 3.4 per cent compared to April of last year.

April sales of agricultural tractors were less encouraging, falling 11.3 per cent year over year in both the U.S. and Canada.

“The April sales results of farm tractor and combine sales show the lingering softness in the equipment market,” Curt Blades, AEM senior vice-president, wrote on the AEM website.

“These reflect the lingering challenges and uncertainty in the ag economy. The progress on a U.S. farm bill is encouraging and creates hope for more long-term growth.”

In other news, Canadian sales of 100-plus horsepower tractors were up significantly compared to April last year. Year-over-year sales rose 32.3 per cent year over year. This compares to an eight per cent drop in the U.S. going by the same criteria.
